What Is Lightning Baccarat By Evolution?
Evolution has spent years applying its “Lightning” formula to game after game, but Lightning Baccarat is one of the more interesting examples, in our opinion, because it takes one of the simplest casino games in the world, and combines it with a multiplier mechanic.
This Lightning Multiplier mechanic works really well in games like Lightning Roulette and Lightning Dice, but Lightning Baccarat is a little bit more divisive, and it’s definitely not a game for everyone; we think it's fair to say.
Lightning Baccarat keeps the same core structure of standard casino Baccarat relatively unchanged. Before each hand begins, several cards are randomly selected to become Lightning cards. Each of these cards then carries a multiplier of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, or 8x. If one or more of these cards appears in the winning hand, the payout for that hand is then multiplied accordingly.
Now, yes, on paper that sounds pretty straightforward and fun, and sometimes it absolutely can be! But, as with anything in the casino world, none of this is free, and Evolution has chosen to fund the lightning mechanic by adding a 20% lightning fee to every player's total bet once the betting window closes. That means you are basically paying extra on every round, simply for the privilege of participating and getting a chance of hitting a multiplier, whether it actually ends up helping you or not.
So, that leaves us with the ultimate question. Is the game any good? In this Lightning Baccarat guide, we're going to show you everything you need to know about it, from how to play, looking at how the multiplier mechanics work, to discussing probabilities, RTPs, and payouts.
Gameplay & Features
Interface & User Experience
At its core, Lightning Baccarat is still baccarat, and it’s played with an eight-deck shoe, with, of course, the objective being to try and guess whether the Player or Banker hand will be the winning one. The goal is to draw the hand closest to nine. The standard three-card baccarat rules apply. You can bet on Player, Banker, or Tie, and there are also two optional side bets: Banker Pair and Player Pair.
What changes in Lightning Baccarat is the pre-hand sequence. Before any cards are dealt, the game enters the Lightning round, which is where between 1 and 5 cards are randomly selected and assigned multipliers. This all happens before the actual baccarat hand begins. If one or more of those selected lightning cards later shows up in a winning hand, their combined value multiplies your payout.
Like all Evolution live dealer games today, Lightning Baccarat has a simple, easy-to-use interface, and the game renders in crisp HD; it also runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so you can enjoy it no matter what time of day or night you’re gambling!
How to Play Lightning Baccarat
Lightning Baccarat is really easy to pick up, and there's actually nothing for you to do. At the start of each round, you simply choose whether to back the banker, the player, or a tie. As mentioned, you can also choose to place an optional side bet on banker pair or player pair if you wish. Interestingly, these side bets also benefit from lightning payouts if the right multiplier cards are involved in a winning hand.
When the betting time closes, the game applies a 20% fee to your total bet to fund the lightning mechanic. Once the game round begins, the game chooses between one and five cards to receive a random multiplier worth 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, or 8x.
Once the multipliers have been applied to the card values, the main game round begins. The dealer deals the player and banker hands according to standard baccarat rules. If either hand contains one or more of the selected lightning cards, you'll be notified that the hand now carries multiplier potential.
If it wins, and if you back the winning hand, you're paid according to the game's payout table. If the winning hand contains lightning cards, the payout is multiplied by the values of those cards. As you can see, it's a very easy game to pick up and follow.

Lightning Baccarat Features Explained
Unlike some of Evolution’s other games, Crazy Time or Ice Fishing, for example, Lightning Baccarat doesn’t contain a bonus round, and there are no bonus triggers. The only feature per se is the Lightning Round, and we’ll discuss this in a bit more depth below.
The Lightning Round
The Lightning Round is the core mechanic of the game, and before each hand, up to five cards are selected, and each one is given a multiplier between 2x and 8x. This is actually the only part of the game that differs from normal baccarat, and without it, you would simply be playing... Well, normal baccarat!
Now, this process happens before the hand is dealt, not during or after, so that means there’s a little “delay”, or anticipation pause, if you like, before the cards are even dealt. If a Lightning Card then appears in the winning hand, its multiplier is applied to the payout. When more than one Lightning Card appears, the values multiply together.
Payouts, Probabilities, and RTP
If you’re used to playing “normal” baccarat, there’s a pretty good chance you won’t really like what Lightning Baccarat has to offer. As mentioned, the game adds a 20% fee to every total bet, and this can get quite expensive, fast, if you’re not hitting multipliers and enjoying the benefits of them.
Below, you can view the breakdown of the game’s different betting options, and you can also see how the payouts differ from conventional baccarat, too
| Bet Type | Normal Baccarat Payout | Lightning Baccarat Payout |
| Player | 1:1 | 1:1 |
| Banker | 1:1 | 1:1 (+ a 5% commission) |
| Tie | 8:1 - 9:1 | 5:1 |
| Pair | 11:1 | 9:1 |
Now, some important things to remember. Lightning Baccarat does at least have the same RTP as normal baccarat, 98.76%, but this is calculated over millions of simulated game rounds, so there’s no guarantee that you’ll experience the same kind of RTP during your playing session.
Streaming Quality
Lightning Baccarat is streamed in full high definition from Evolution's professional, custom-made studio, and the production quality is superb, which is something we've come to expect from every Evolution release.
The game is fully optimised for both desktop and mobile devices, and if you’re playing on a mobile, the screen size is automatically adjusted to fit your device; plus, some unnecessary game menus are tucked away, too, so as not to disturb you. It's easy to see the available betting options, and you simply need to select which chips you want to place and click or tap on the board to put them down.
There aren't as many different camera angles in Lightning Baccarat as you would expect to see in some of Evolution's other titles, but this is purely down to the fact that there are not that many angles to see. You will see close-ups of the cards when they're dealt and when the multipliers are assigned. There are some little animations to show you which cards are receiving which multiplier values too.
Like all Evolution releases, Lightning Baccarat also uses state-of-the-art quality adjustment technology, which means that if your internet connection dips or slows temporarily, the stream will automatically detect this and deliver a slightly lower resolution video feed in an attempt to prevent lag or freezing.
The game has a live audio stream, so you can always hear what the dealer has to say. There is a live chat function too, which allows you to interact with the dealer and other players at the table!

Lightning Baccarat Statistic Tracking
Lightning Baccarat, like pretty much every live dealer casino game released today, contains some basic built-in stats trackers, but they’re far from comprehensive, and this is why many players end up turning to third-party tracking tools like ours here at CasinoTrackpot.
Why Do Players Check Previous Hand Results on Lightning Baccarat?
Because baccarat players love roadmaps, they always have, and whether or not these patterns go on to create any real value, they form part of the game’s culture.
It’s also just human nature to want to know more about the game you’re playing. Maybe you're interested in how the bets that you've been playing recently have landed in the past, or maybe you're curious what kind of multipliers have appeared recently.
But, considering Lightning Baccarat charges a 20% fee just to play, it's actually not surprising if gamblers want to know how the game has been playing for them.
Are There Any Benefits To Using a Lightning Baccarat Stat Tracker?
There are benefits in terms of context, yes, but whether you get any benefit or not depends mainly on what you want to actually use the tracker for. No tracker will be able to give you information that can be used to beat the game long-term; that’s just not possible, but it can be quite fun and interesting to follow along with what’s been happening, and if this is your reason for wanting a third-party Lightning Baccarat stats tracker like ours, then, yes, it may be able to benefit you.
Just remember; it doesn't matter what's happened in the previous game rounds. The next one played is entirely random, and the outcome is totally independent of what has happened in the past!
What Do Lightning Baccarat Trackers Tell You?
Using the interface and roadmaps can tell you several things:
- What multipliers have been appearing recently, and how often they’ve formed part of a winning hand
- Whether Player or Banker has been winning more often
- How often Tie has landed
- How frequently the Banker and Player Pair side bet has landed
Pros & Cons Of Lightning Baccarat
Pros
- Adds impressive win potential to a (traditionally) low-paying casino game
- Lightning Multipliers create some massive win potential when stacked correctly
- Easy to understand and pick-up if you already know baccarat
- Fully optimised for both desktop and mobile devices
Cons
- Quite boring after a while and not ideal if you already get bored of standard baccarat
- The 20% fee is very high; you’re paying more extra hand, regardless of whether the multipliers help you or not
- Lower RTP (on some bets) than standard baccarat
- Not really any strategies to apply to the game
Conclusion & Verdict
Lightning Baccarat is one of those games that makes perfect sense when you stop thinking of it like a serious live dealer casino game and more like something you play for entertainment value.
If you're looking to play Baccarat in the cleanest and most efficient way possible, then this is definitely not the game for you. The mandatory 20% fee alone is too much to ignore. Even the RTP is lower than normal Baccarat. However, with that fee and with the lowered RTP comes the win potential that no conventional Baccarat game can match.
Yes, it’s not that easy to get those big multipliers, and to hit the really big payouts, you’re going to need to get very lucky with two or three 8x multipliers appearing in the same winning hand.
If you're able to be patient, however, keep your stake size the same and wait for the right hand. It's possible to hit some monster wins here, but just be aware of the downsides and understand that the 20% fee can add up pretty quickly, especially if you're not winning much.
