What Is Gold Vault Roulette Live By Evolution?

Gold Vault Roulette is a live dealer roulette game from Evolution, launched in August 2023 as the successor to their short-lived 2022 release Gold Bar Roulette. In the earlier game, players could place gold bar multipliers on the betting grid, and although it seemed like a cool concept, it was poorly received by players and removed from action the same month.

However, Evolution wasn't content with giving up so easily, and Gold Vault Roulette was the replacement for the original. Here, the game uses the same core concept but automates it, randomly scattering between five and 20 multipliers across the grid.

Gold Vault Roulette is designed, at its core, around European roulette, and this means you’ll see a single-zero wheel with 37 numbers, 0-36. All of the usual inside and outside bets are available, and they all pay at their standard payout rates, too. Red/black, odd/even, columns, dozens, splits, corners, lines, and so on all behave exactly as they would at any traditional roulette table.

The twist comes via the Gold Bar mechanic. After the betting window closes but before the wheel spins, an animated safe in the studio opens and reveals between five and twenty gold bars in total. These are then randomly added to numbers across the betting grid, and that number then has a 50x multiplier applied to it, for straight-up bets.

Where things get a little bit more exciting is the stacking mechanic. Up to three gold bars can land on the same number in a single round, and when that happens, the multipliers add together: Two bars on a number mean 100x; three bars mean 150x. 

The game also has a Super Gold Bar, which doesn’t appear every round. When it is revealed, though, it attaches itself to one number and applies a 500x multiplier to it.

Now, as in most live roulette games (with bonus mechanics like these such as Lightning Roulette), Gold Vault Roulette has to make up for the added multipliers somewhere. Evolution has chosen to do that, once again, by reducing the straight-up number payout. When you win a straight-up number bet, the payout here is 24:1 rather than the standard 35:1.

Wheel, Interface, and User Experience

The studio for Gold Vault Roulette is built around a gold-gilded bank vault theme, and you’ll see gold-leafed walls, a beautiful ceiling, security boxes to the sides, and a large open vault door behind the wheel, where you can see stacks of gold bars.

On the left-hand side you’ll see a wall of four safety deposit boxes, and when the betting round closes, these open to reveal how many gold bars will be added to the betting grid. Interesting fact: this is the same set Evolution originally built for the original Gold Bar Roulette, but it got repurposed and redesigned.

The wheel itself is a standard setup, and along with their duties of chatting to players and introducing the game, the host is also responsible for setting the wheel spinning before loading the ball, ready for the next game.

The betting interface is the standard Evolution roulette layout, too, so you’ll see a full grid layout by default, with a racetrack view available for neighbour bets, call bets, and other section-based wagering. Autoplay is available, as is Favourite Bets, which lets you save and bring up your favourite betting patterns.

How to Play Gold Vault Roulette

Gold Vault Roulette is very simple to play if you already know how to play roulette. At the start of every round, a betting window of around 20 seconds opens. You simply need to select your chip value and place your bets anywhere on the grid. Don’t forget to include straight-up bets if you want to have a chance at hitting the multipliers.

Once the betting window shuts, the safety deposit boxes open in the studio, and that round’s gold bars are revealed. Between 5 and 20 gold bars are randomly distributed across the grid, and if a Super Gold Bar comes into play, it’s done separately and assigned to its own number.

Once the gold bars have been set, the ball is released. The wheel then spins at least three times before the ball eventually settles into a pocket. Outside bets are paid at standard European roulette payouts, while Straight Up bets pay at 24:1 unless a Gold Bar Multiplier is involved.

Once bets have been settled, the next game round begins.

The standard European roulette payouts apply across all non-Straight Up bets in Gold Vault Roulette. The only modified payout is the Straight Up bet itself, which is reduced from 35:1 to 24:1. Multiple camera angles are used to cover the wheel, the host, and the safety deposit boxes during the gold bar reveal moment. The vault design is pretty well done, in our opinion. You'll see the gold-leafed surfaces catching the studio lighting in a way that gives the game quite a unique look, to be honest. As you'd expect from any Evolution game, it's a very professional setup with nothing to complain about.

The audio isn't quite as detailed, but it does a good job of leaning into the heist theme, and the host is mic'd up so you can hear everything they have to say as well. Like all Evolution games today, there is also a live chat window where you can interact with other players and the host. The game is also fully mobile optimised, so you can enjoy playing it on any mobile device with an internet connection.

Lightning Roulette is the high-variance option, and this means you’ll see fewer multipliers but higher individual values, and, of course, a higher maximum win potential overall. That comes with increased volatility, however, and that’s where Gold Vault Roulette may appeal to players more.
