What is Mega Ball By Evolution?

Leading iGaming provider Evolution has a habit of taking fairly familiar gambling formats and making them feel faster, slicker, and more modern. Mega Ball is an excellent example of that, and, at its core, it’s, basically, a live bingo-style game where you simply buy cards, watch 20 balls get drawn from a possible 51, and try to complete horizontal, vertical, or diagonal lines on your cards. 

Things change, however, during the final Mega Ball stage. Here, a bonus ball is drawn, and a multiplier ranging from 5x to 100x is generated, which can be applied to any wins you manage to form, so it’s here that things start to get interesting.

Now, sure, Mega Ball Live was never one of Evolution’s most popular or successful releases, but for many players, it’s quite a fun little title, and it also offers some of the highest win potential in the online gambling world, up to 999,999x your bet!

Gameplay & Features

Mega Ball doesn’t revolve around a traditional wheel like a lot of the live dealer games, including Monopoly Live, that we see being released today, and the core of the game is, instead, focused on buying bingo cards and watching a live number draw. So, if you’re new to this format and expecting heaps of variety with regards to bonus rounds, that’s very much not the case in this Evolution release.

Interface, and User Experience

Mega Ball is one of Evolution’s older live games, so it doesn’t look quite as polished as some of their more recent releases, but it’s still well presented, easy to place bets on, and you’ll see the main staking options at the bottom of the screen: +1 Card, +10 Cards, +15 Cards, and +25 Cards. These allow you to purchase cards before the game starts.

You’ll see the presenter wearing a gold waistcoat in the middle of the screen, and on the right-hand side​​ is the Mega Ball machine. On the left-hand side of the screen, you’ll see the multiplier section, and this comes to life once the first 20 balls have been drawn.

How to Play Mega Ball

Mega Ball is a really easy game to play once you get past the learning curve associated with bingo-like games. When a new game round begins, you’re given around 20 seconds to purchase your cards. Every card contains 24 numbers, and there’s also a blank “wild” space in the middle, and this space is already selected as a free square. The card itself contains a grid of 5×5 random numbers, and there are a total of 12 playable lines on each card.

You simply need to choose the value from the betting range that you want to pay for each card and choose how many cards you want to buy. You can purchase up to 200 cards in units of 1, 10, 25, or 50, and once you’ve bought your cards, you can also change their value too, but you can only do this while the betting round is still open.

If you buy a card and don’t like the look of your numbers, you can have the option to change them by clicking the refresh button. You can do this indefinitely while the betting time is still open. 

Once the betting round has closed, the game begins, and 20 out of the 51 balls will be selected from the ball-drawing machine, with each drawn ball getting compared with the numbers on your card. Your card then automatically marks off matching numbers, with that continuing until the Mega Ball itself is drawn, which we’ll cover in the following section.

Mega Ball Bonus Round Explained

Mega Ball doesn’t have a set bonus round as you’d see in other live lotto-style gameshows, including Crazy Balls or Monopoly Big Baller, but there is quite a lot of action, and it’s this that forms the core part of the game.

Once the main 20-ball draw is complete, a multiplier wheel in the centre of the studio is used to determine the Mega Ball multiplier for that round. The multiplier values can range from 5x to 100x.

After the multiplier has been set, a Mega Ball number is drawn from the remaining 31 balls in the machine. If that number completes a winning line on one of your cards, the payout will be multiplied by the multiplier value. In some rounds, a second Mega Ball is also drawn, but if both Mega Balls complete a line on the same card, only the higher multiplier applies, so it’s impossible to stack both, unfortunately.

Payouts, Probabilities & RTP

Mega Ball’s payouts are based on how many completed lines you land on a single card, and this is super important to understand, as it means the game’s biggest wins come from one card, rather than hedging your bets on lots of cards.

Depending on the multipliers, the payouts look like this:

• One Line: Pays between 1:1 to 99:1
• Two Lines: Pays between 4:1 to 499:1
• Three Lines: Pays between 49:1 to 4:991
• Four Lines: Pays from 249:1 to 24,999:1
• Five Lines: Pays from 999:1 to 99,999:1
• Six Lines: Pays from 9,999:1 to 999,999:1

As you can see, there are some pretty insane-looking numbers there, and a six-line can pay, theoretically, almost a million-to-one odds! However, the game also caps total wins at €500,000.

The RTP for one card in play is listed as 95.40%, with a range of 95.05% to 95.40%. This is actually quite low, especially when compared to other live casino games, but even against video slots, it’s a bit on the low side, not super important for a short-term session, but definitely something to keep in mind if you’re the type of player who really cares about RTPs and house edge.

Streaming Quality

Mega Ball is quite a unique game. Because so much of the action is automated, Evolution Gaming had to figure out a way to keep the game feeling lively enough that players don’t get bored, and, for the most part, they did a fairly good job of that, we feel.

On the whole, the presentation seems effective, and the studio is clearly built to feel bright, energetic, and game-show-like. The interface does a lot to keep you entertained and engaged, too.

You can easily see the game history, the card orders change dynamically, and any numbers you need to hit to win are highlighted. There are multiple camera angles, and the game also features automatic quality adjustment, so if your internet connection drops, the stream changes quality automatically.

Mega Ball is not a “stats game” in quite the same way as roulette or baccarat can be, but Evolution does still provide some in-game data. It is, however, very basic, so if you’re looking for a more detailed breakdown of how the game’s been playing, you’ll need to use a third-party stats tracker, just like ours.

Conclusion & Verdict

Mega Ball is a great example of Evolution doing what it often does best: taking an existing gambling mechanic, modernising it, and reshaping it into something that, to be honest, feels a lot more marketable to the iGaming player base.

Mega Ball isn’t really a live casino game in the traditional sense, but nor is it trying to be. It’s somewhat of a hybrid game (like a lot of Evolution’s titles recently), and it’s clearly aimed at players who enjoy number-driven draws, bingo game mechanics, and multiplier excitement.

It’s a fun game, with some great win potential, but for us, we feel it’s a little weak due to the lack of bonuses. As a result, you’re pretty reliant on the multiplier phase, and without it, the game can feel a bit… empty.

Still, Mega Ball is definitely a good game, and it’s perfect for low-stakes novelty gambling, in our opinion. It’s not one of the best live dealer games from Evolution, granted, but it’s worth a play, and if you like bingo + live gameshow action, then it may well appeal to you.
