Cash or Crash Live is one of Evolution’s most unique game show releases to date, and it’s basically a high-stakes, single-decision ladder climber game, where all of the action takes place inside a floating AR blimp!

Released in 2021, it quickly became popular with players thanks to its simplicity, extreme volatility, and exceptionally high RTP of (up to) 99.59%, and it’s this RTP that actually makes it one of the most “player-friendly” live games Evolution Gaming has ever produced.

In our Cash or Crash Live review, we’ll explore the game rules, how the ball drawing machine operates, what the payouts look like, what strategies you can use while playing, and whether Cash or Crash is a live game show that is still worth playing in the modern era online casino.

Gameplay & Features

Cash or Crash Live is a very simple game which takes place in an augmented reality within a bustling metropolis where a virtual blimp soars high into the sky. To get things started, you place one bet, a ball is drawn, and you decide whether to cash out, take half, or continue climbing the payout ladder. Your goal is to move as far up the 20-step prize ladder as possible.

If you manage to reach the top, you can hit the top prize of 18,000x, which is boosted to a whopping 50,000x if the Golden Ball has been drawn. Essentially, the whole game revolves around a lottery-style machine that contains 19 green balls, 8 red balls, and 1 golden ball. Each green ball moves you up a level.

The game round ends instantly each time a red ball is drawn (unless you have a Gold Ball bonus shield). And the one Gold Ball, if drawn, gives you a one-time protection against the next red ball and upgrades the payout ladder for the remainder of the game round.

Each time a green ball is drawn, you’re forced into making a decision, and this is why the RTP can be so high; your decisions actually affect the gameplay.

Studio, Interface & User Experience

Cash or Crash is streamed live from Evolution’s Riga studio, and when you load the game, you’ll see that you’re joining the action from a beautifully rendered airship! In the background, there’s a city skyline, and sharp observers will actually notice that it’s the same one used in Crazy Time and Monopoly Live’s bonus rounds!

As with all of Evolution’s games, the whole set is polished, colourful, and very thematic, and it’s very easy to get into the spirit of the game once you begin playing!

Once betting rounds close, the entire focus shifts to the ball machine and the ladder-style paytable, which updates with each green ball. Your three decision buttons (Take All, Take Half, and Continue) appear clearly at the bottom of the screen, with percentage indicators showing what other players chose, which is actually a pretty interesting little bit of information, we feel.

Plus, like all Evolution titles, the Cash or Crash Live game is fully mobile-optimised and can be played smoothly on phones, tablets, and desktops. Streaming is HD-quality, and we’ll talk more about the streaming quality later in this review.

How to Play Cash or Crash Live

Cash or Crash is straightforward to learn, and getting started takes only a few seconds. Here’s a look at how to play and a run-through of the basics:

1. Place Your Bet:

Once a new round begins, you’ll have around 20 seconds of betting time. Unlike other Evolution game shows, there are no complicated bet spots, layouts or multiple bet types. There is only one stake to place, allowing players to get into the action quickly and conveniently.

Once the betting round closes, the ladder updates automatically to show how much your current stake is/would be worth at each following green ball.

2. Watch the First Ball Draw:

The ball machine releases the first coloured ball. If it’s green, you climb the first rung of the ladder. If it’s red, the round ends instantly. If it’s the Golden Ball, you receive an instant “get out of jail free card”, so to speak, and enhanced multipliers.

3. Make Your Decision:

Each time a green ball gets drawn or a shield broken, you are given three choices:

It’s these decisions that make up the core of the game, and you can see some similarities to Crash-based games here, actually. The longer you play, the riskier it feels, but the amounts get larger, so it’s really not one for the faint-hearted!

4. Collect Winnings & Continue:

If you choose Take All or Take Half, your winnings are credited to your online casino balance instantly. If you decide to continue, then you wait until the next ball is drawn, and the process repeats.

Bonus Games

Unlike wheel-based game shows, Cash or Crash has a single bonus mechanic: the Golden Ball. However, it has such a large impact on the game that it actually fundamentally changes the way the game’s played.

Below, we’ll break down how each ball works and what its effect on the gameplay is.

Green Ball – Standard Climb

Green balls are straightforward, and the next green ball drawn moves you one step higher up the ladder, increasing your multiplier and pushing you closer to the big prizes. There are a total of 20 different steps on the ladder, and reaching the 20th position is how you can hit the game’s maximum win potential of 50,000x.

There are a total of 19 green balls in the machine, so these make up the majority of outcomes. However, the longer the game goes on, the fewer greens are left, so it’s again similar to a Crash game like “Mined” in this respect.

Red Ball – Round Ends

If a red ball is drawn, the round ends instantly, and you lose your stake, unless you have an active shield. There are only 8 red balls in total, and while this doesn’t seem like many, once a few greens have gone, it becomes surprisingly volatile!

Golden Ball – Protective Shield & Boost

This is the rarest and most important draw in Cash or Crash Live. When the Golden Ball is drawn, you instantly receive a “shield” that protects you from the next red ball drawn.

Plus, every prize on the ladder is boosted, and the game enters “quick mode”, which forces you to continue playing until you’ve used your shield. (There would be no point cashing out here, as you can’t lose until the shield has been used.) So, hitting a golden ball early can prove to be very lucrative over the course of the round. quick drawing mode.

Payouts, Probabilities & RTP

Below is a breakdown of the ball distribution that drives every round:

If you play according to the best strategy, Cash or Crash can offer an exceptionally high RTP of 99.59%! This makes it one of the highest-returning live casino games Evolution has created, even rivalling blackjack.

However, this RTP assumes a perfect strategy and making conservative choices. In reality, it’s almost impossible to achieve this RTP, because doing so would just be too “boring” and would mean you never have a chance of hitting any of the really big prizes.

Streaming Quality

Cash or Crash runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Like all Evolution games, it offers exceptionally high production quality, HD streaming, clean audio, and smooth camera shots.

Dynamic angle changes occur during the ball draw, during the Golden Ball announcement, and as you climb the ladder, and this helps it to maintain a TV-show-like experience throughout.

Plus, like all Evolution titles, to prevent lag, the game automatically adjusts video resolution depending on your connection quality. If the software detects that your internet connection is slow, it will automatically reduce the quality of the graphics.

Cash or Crash Live Strategy

While still a game of chance, Cash or Crash is more strategic than other live show titles because you control the risk after every green ball. However, as we mentioned earlier, to achieve the game’s highest RTP, you do need to play very conservatively, which, we know, most players (including us) won’t do very much. Here are a few strategies to consider:

Low-Risk Strategy – Instant Cash Out

This approach involves cashing out once the first green ball appears. This is the most boring approach, and you’ll win just 1.2x your stake. However, this is the only way to theoretically achieve the game’s 99.59% RTP.

Take Half Strategy

A slightly riskier strategy that somewhat balances risk with reward. After every green ball, you bank half and let the rest ride. After two or three steps, you’re usually playing with “free money”, so this is a good strategy for those wanting stability but more win potential, too.

Golden Ball Chaser

This strategy is similar to the “low-risk strategy” we started this section with, with one very significant difference: you wait for the Golden Ball to be drawn. If the first ball isn’t golden, you take half or cash out immediately.

All-or-Nothing Strategy

This is, by far, the most reckless strategy, and it virtually never wins. (And when we say it almost never wins, we mean it, as, if it does, you’re guaranteed 18,000x or 50,000x.) Put simply, this strategy involves clicking “Continue” until the end; you’re letting it ride, so to speak.

The Blimp Strategy (Probability-Based)

This is quite a unique strategy, and when you begin playing Cash or Crash, you’ll notice that the game displays the current percentage chances of a green vs red ball. This strategy involves backing the odds, so you only continue when the percentage of a green being drawn is higher than that of a red.

Cash or Crash Live Statistic Tracking

Unlike wheel-based games such as Crazy Time or Monopoly Live, Cash or Crash Live is not driven by fixed-number outcomes. Instead, every round is driven by which coloured balls remain in the machine. This creates a unique type of “tracking” behaviour among players.

While Evolution includes basic in-game stats (recent outcomes and your current green/red probability), many players still prefer external trackers to get a broader view of volatility, recent Golden Ball appearances, and the average round length.

Why Players Track Cash or Crash Online Results & Game Statistics

Generally speaking, there are two main reasons why players want to track Cash or Crash Live outcomes. Firstly, there’s a look into the game’s volatility and how it’s been playing. Because the game becomes more volatile as each ball is removed, some players like to see how long recent rounds have lasted, how often early reds appear, and how frequently Golden Balls have popped up.

Of course, this doesn’t change future probabilities, but it helps players mentally prepare for streaky behaviour. Some players may also want to know how the game’s been playing to help them manage their bankroll.

Cash or Crash is extremely high-variance. Tracking recent round lengths can help determine whether the game is currently producing a run of shorter games or more drawn-out, longer rounds. Again, this is purely for entertainment value rather than having any noticeable impact on strategy, but it does allow you to pace your bets more carefully.

Are There Any Benefits To Using Stats Trackers?

From a mathematical perspective, no; no tracker can influence or predict results. Each draw is independent, and the machine does not have memory, so the next game is 100% random and not influenced by previous results. However, as we’ve seen, tracking can help with things like managing expectations of the game, and it can provide entertainment value, especially during longer sessions.

Conclusion & Verdict

Cash or Crash Live is, in our opinion, one of Evolution’s most interesting game show releases. It’s simple, tense, and surprisingly strategic. While it doesn’t have the big production value, perhaps, of other games like Funky Time or the nostalgia of Monopoly Big Baller, its ladder system delivers some of the most intense and engaging gambling experiences in any live casino game.

As we mentioned earlier, it’s essentially a “Crash” game, where you choose how long you want to try your luck for, but there’s more, too. The addition of the Golden Ball, for example, is superb, and if you reach the higher levels of the ladder, this ball even appearing can be worth thousands of times your stake, with potential winnings hitting 50,000x.

Sure, it’s not for everyone, and to enjoy the game’s optimal RTP, you have to play a very conservative strategy. However, it’s a fun game, and if you enjoy high volatility, decisions that need to be made under pressure, and something different, Cash or Crash Live is definitely a title worth checking out, if you haven’t already.
