Treasure Island is a live casino game show from Pragmatic Play that first launched in late 2023. It’s a pirate-themed adventure based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s famous novel of the same name, and it brings some of the tale’s characters, like Long John Silver, Captain Flint, and Billy Bones, into a fast-paced game show format.

Treasure Island follows in the footsteps of Evolution’s hit game shows (like Crazy Time) and comes complete with a big wheel, random multipliers on each spin, and multiple bonus games. Interestingly, Pragmatic Play actually re-released the game after the initial version was a bit too complicated. The result is a highly entertaining game show that offers four unique bonus rounds and a huge maximum payout of up to 20,000x!

In this Treasure Island review, we’re going to show you everything you need to know about the game, starting with the main gameplay itself.

Gameplay & Features

Treasure Island revolves around a 54-segment wheel. Of these positions, 45 are numbered 1, 2, 5, or 10, and 9 are bonus rounds, of which there are four different types. Before each round, you can choose how many segments to bet on. Once the bets are placed, the host spins the big wheel to begin the next game round.

Like many Pragmatic Play live games, Treasure Island offers a “Bet All” feature, allowing you to quickly place a bet on all segments. If the wheel stops on a segment you bet on, you either win the bonus round (if it’s a bonus segment) or a multiplier payout if it lands on a numbered segment.

Wheel, Interface, and User Experience

Treasure Island is set in an immersive studio, and the wheel itself is large and vividly coloured, set against a backdrop which includes a wide variety of tropical island props. Think palm trees, sand, skulls, and more! Like most of Pragmatic Play’s recent live dealer games, Treasure Island looks fantastic, and the hosts are really engaging and chatty.

At the bottom of the user interface, you’ll see a betting grid, and this displays all of the bet spots: the four numbers and the four bonus rounds. To place a bet, you need to click on the chip denomination you want to place and then click on the segment you want to cover.

Treasure Island’s interface also allows you to view some statistics. A history display shows recent winning segments and results, and you can view the percentages of how often each segment has hit over the last 50 or more rounds.

How to Play Treasure Island Live

Like most live wheel game shows, Treasure Island is very simple to play once you understand how it works. Here’s how to play:

1. Place Your Bets:

When a new round begins, you’ll have about 12 seconds to place your bets. Choose the chip value you want, and place bets on any of the segments you think the wheel might land on. As mentioned earlier, you can bet on the numbered segments or the bonus round segments.

2. Booster & Wheel Spin:

Once the betting round closes, the host then spins the wheel. At the same time, the Booster (a small top slot-machine-like mechanic) spins and stops on a random combination of a segment type and a multiplier value. We’ll explain more about this later in this review.

3. Results & Payouts:

When the wheel stops, the pointer indicates the winning segment. If the wheel lands on a number, all of the players who bet on that number receive instant wins according to the value/odds. If a Booster multiplier was applied to that number for the spin, this is also taken into account.

4. Bonus Rounds (if any):

If the wheel lands on a bonus round segment, that bonus round now plays out in full. We’ll talk more about the bonus rounds and how they work in the following section of this Treasure Island Live review.

As you can see, Treasure Island’s gameplay is straightforward, especially if you’ve played similar wheel games in the past.

Treasure Island Bonus Rounds Explained

Treasure Island Live offers four unique bonus rounds + the Booster Multiplier. The four features are triggered by the wheel landing on the relevant segment, while the Booster Multiplier spins with each spin. We’ll look at how all five of these features and bonus rounds work below.

Booster Multiplier

Before each spin, a small two-reel “Booster” selects one wheel symbol (a number or a bonus) and joins it with a multiplier. This can be between 2x and 20x. The Booster feature is guaranteed each round, unlike the one in Evolution’s Crazy Time, so there’s always a guaranteed multiplier in play to enhance the win potential. If the wheel stops on a segment that’s covered by a multiplier on that spin, the multiplier value will apply to the payout or the bonus round winnings.

John Silver’s Loot

The John Silver’s Loot bonus is inspired by a bingo-style lottery draw and features Long John Silver himself! In this bonus, a machine filled with coloured balls appears, and it contains 40 balls in total: 20 green balls and 20 red balls. The concept is simple: each green ball drawn increases your multiplier, moving you up a prize ladder, while drawing a red ball ends the bonus round. Your goal is to try and draw as many green balls as possible in a row.

Once this bonus round is triggered, the machine will begin to draw balls one by one. Each time a green ball comes out, you climb one step up a multiplier ladder, and it keeps growing until either a red ball appears or you reach the top of the ladder.

It’s possible to draw up to 15 balls in total in this bonus, which means, in an extremely lucky scenario, you could draw up to 15 greens in a row. This bonus round has a maximum theoretical win potential of up to 20,000x!

Ben’s Lost Marbles

Ben’s Lost Marbles is a playful, Pachinko-style bonus game, named after Ben Gunn and his “lost marbles”. This bonus shows you a vertical pegboard, where marbles fall down, with the goal being to try and land them in pockets that award multipliers.

At the start of the bonus, the game will activate 5 out of 9 pockets at the bottom of the Pachinko board, assigning each of those active pockets a random multiplier value. Next, the game determines how many marbles will be dropped. This is done by a quick dice roll using three special dice (each showing values 1, 2, or 3). The sum of the three dice tells how many “buckets” of marbles will be used. Essentially, the more buckets, the more marbles.

There are up to 10 buckets available, so, for example, if the dice total is 7, the game would use 7 buckets: five 5-marble ones and two 10-marble ones. Once decided, the machine simply starts dropping the marbles down. It’s completely random, so you don’t need to worry about making any choices, as the marbles fall automatically.

Billy Bones’ Map

Next up is the Billy Bones’ Map bonus, and this is, essentially, a treasure hunt pick’em bonus. In this round, you’ll be taken to a giant 8×8 grid containing face-down tiles; there are 64 in total. Behind each tile, there’s either a gem with a multiplier value or a special key symbol, where finding three keys unlocks a special reward. You will be prompted to pick 5 tiles from the 64, and the goal is to try to uncover as many “treasures” as you can.

Captain Flint’s Treasure

Finally, there’s the Captain Flint’s Treasure bonus round, which offers a multi-level game. There are six levels in total, with each offering higher win potential. At the beginning of the bonus round, you’ll be presented with a row of barrels for Level 1. Here, all barrels are safe: you can’t pick a skull (which, later, ends the bonus). After your pick, you advance to Level 2, and if you manage to avoid a skull here, you’ll then move to Level 3, and so on.

Each time you advance to a new level, the number of skulls increases, but so does the win potential! Again, there’s a theoretical maximum win potential of up to 20,000x in this bonus round.

Payouts, Probabilities, & RTP

Treasure Island Live’s overall RTP is 96.50%, which is fairly good for a live game show, and it’s slightly higher than many of Evolution’s comparable titles. What makes Treasure Island quite interesting is that all of the betting options have very similar RTPs, in the range of 96.51% to 96.55%. This is quite different from other similar games, which generally offer a more variable RTP range.

Here’s a look at the different betting options, their payouts (where applicable) and the probability of each bet landing:

Wheel SegmentPayoutProbability
Number 11:133.33%
Number 22:127.78%
Number 55:114.81%
Number 1010:17.41%
John Silver’s Loot Bonus(enters bonus)7.41%
Ben’s Lost Marbles Bonus(enters bonus)3.70%
Billy Bones’ Map Bonus(enters bonus)3.70%
Captain Flint’s Treasure Bonus(enters bonus)1.85%

Note: the table above shows base payouts before multipliers. We put “enters bonus” for all four bonuses, as you’re guaranteed a payout – but it’s far too hard to give an expected range given the multipliers and the variance of the game. It’s also worth noting that the probability of hitting any of the four bonus segments on a single spin is around 16.67%.

Treasure Island Live Streaming Quality

Pragmatic Play is known for producing high-quality live casino games, and Treasure Island is no exception. The video quality is crisp HD with dynamic camera work, and during the main wheel spins, you usually get a wide shot of the host and the entire wheel, allowing you to watch the wheel spinning and the Booster result above it.

Like all Pragmatic Play LIVE games, Treasure Island is fully mobile optimised, too, so if you’re playing from a mobile device, you’ll see a slightly dialled-down version of the game, but all betting options remain available, albeit some hidden behind menus.

Treasure Island Live Strategy & Playing Tips

One of the things to bear in mind with any casino game is that, in the long run, the house always wins: there simply aren’t any strategies that will allow you to beat the house edge long-term. However, short-term strategies can be of interest, and depending on the game you’re playing and the method you employ, they can even help to balance the odds. Here are some of the most popular Treasure Island LIVE strategies to consider.

The “Full Coverage” Strategy

This is the “all-in” approach, if you like, and you’ll be placing a bet on every single segment of the wheel, every round. By doing so, you guarantee that you’ll always hit a win of some kind on each spin, as you have all of the numbers and bonus round segments covered. Of course, the upside here is that you never have to worry about missing a bonus round or booster number. However, the downside is that covering all segments of the wheel is expensive, resulting in bad bankroll management, as most of the time you’re going to lose money.

The “Numbers Only” Strategy

Another strategy you could consider is betting only on the numbers. Statistically, this offers you the best odds and most frequent wins and ensures that any time a number lands, you hit it. By not covering the bonus round segments, you’re saving money each round, but the kicker is obvious: you’re massively limiting your win potential, you can’t enter any of the bonus rounds, and you’ll still lose money on more than half the spins.

The “Balance” Strategy

Many players like to take a hybrid approach to try and get the best of both worlds, and in our opinion, this is probably the smartest way to play Treasure Island. This strategy sees you covering all four of the bonus rounds, along with one or two numbers, typically 5 and 10.

This means that you don’t always lose if a number lands on the wheel, while also ensuring that should any bonus round segments land, you get to enjoy the features in full!

The “Bonus Hunt” Strategy

This is the highest variance of the four strategies we’ve covered today, and whilst it carries the most risk to your bankroll, it’s also the one that offers the highest potential payouts. Here, you only cover the bonus round segments of the wheel, so if a number lands, you don’t win anything. However, with a bonus round landing around 16% of the time, you shouldn’t have to wait for long to get a piece of the action, and if you hit a lucrative feature, you can end up walking away with some pretty healthy profits.

Treasure Island Live Stats Tracking

Treasure Island Live, like all live dealer games, is completely random, and this means that no strategy, betting system, or changing of your stake size will enable you to win consistently in the long run; it would be nice, wouldn’t it!

However, as is the case with most live dealer games, you can begin to see patterns if you study the data enough, and this can help to guide your game betting. Now, can this be useful? Yes, absolutely. But it won’t guarantee big wins, and here’s why:

Treasure Island’s results are random, and each spin is independent of the last. The probabilities don’t change based on history. Just because, for example, Captain Flint’s Treasure hasn’t appeared in 200 spins doesn’t make it due to happen, as the chance is still 1.85% each spin.

So, while statistical tracking tools can be useful to see which bonus rounds haven’t landed in a while, you should always take them with a pinch of salt and avoid thinking too much into them.

Why Do Players Check Previous Spin Results on Treasure Island?

Every player has their own reasons, with many people checking Treasure Island Live stats as a kind of guide, maybe to help them decide on which bets to “bump up” or which bonus round segment to bet on, figuring that if it hasn’t landed in a while, it might do soon.

And, for many people, it’s just curiosity. Humans like to see what’s happened before, and being able to view the data of previous game rounds and the average frequency with which the features have landed can be very interesting!

Are There Any Benefits To Using Treasure Island Stats Trackers?

That ultimately comes down to what you want from them. If you’re the type of player who likes to know what’s been happening and the outcomes of previous game rounds, then yes, a Treasure Island Live stat tracker can show you how long it’s been since a bonus round appeared or show you more information about the Booster Multipliers that have appeared recently.

It’s fascinating information, that’s for sure, but remember that it doesn’t change the maths. Treasure Island Live, like all licensed live dealer games, is designed so that every single spin is completely random and independent. Just because a number or bonus round segment hasn’t landed in a while does not mean it’s “due” or more likely to appear in subsequent spins.

Pros & Cons Of Treasure Island Live

conclusion & verdict

Treasure Island Live is a pretty ambitious release from Pragmatic Play, and we were happy to see it re-released, as the original version was pretty complex. Pragmatic Play has done a good job of blending the adventure-driven pirate theme with a live casino game mechanic that makes each spin exciting, and we like the fact that the four bonus rounds all contain some big win potential.

Now, that’s not to say it’s a perfect game: like most game shows, you’ll generally need to spread your bets quite widely to make sure you don’t miss out, and it can feel a bit “busy” for new, less experienced players. That said, once you get used to the pace and how things work, there’s a lot of entertainment here, and we really like what Pragmatic Play has done! If you’ve enjoyed it as much as we have, why not consider trying out their newest hit, Money Time, another fantastic gameshow with huge prizes and exciting bonus features.

faq

1. When I played this game before, it had emeralds, topazes and rubies as symbols, along with a Wild Collector and Great Scavenger bonus. What happened to them?

Pragmatic Play decided to give their Treasure Island Live casino game a revamp, which meant new bonuses, and the gems and jewels were replaced with instant win prizes in the form of number bets instead. The goal of their re-release was to enhance the gaming experience for players and bring the game more in line with the likes of their popular Sweet Bonanza Candyland.

2. Is the Booster Multiplier present on every spin?

Yes, you’re guaranteed the multiplier to boost payouts on every round that you play. This can either enhance the number bets or the bonus rounds.

3. Now that I’ve got more familiar with Pragmatic Wheel games, are there any other titles in their portfolio I can play that you’ve not already mentioned?

If Treasure Island has turned out to be the wrong choice for you, as it’s a little too complex, we’d suggest trying out Mega Wheel, as this is far easier to follow and contains no bonus rounds at all.
